This Moment

How can you make a moment last?
There are techniques people use to savor a moment, to share their enjoyment, and to stay present. Yet to be taught these things is different from doing them.
We sit on a hot and crowded plane and wish the undesired moment to pass. We are enjoying ourselves and there is a disruption, and we hope for it to pass. Soon, all of life has passed before us and we are disgruntled and unhappy.
To truly make time feel as if it has not passed you by, you must be active in creating the moment. Creating benchmarks, self-narrating, reflecting, giving each moment its place in time, creating rituals for every transition of the day, and giving the day it’s due.
Anxiety and eagerness kill time. When these emotions have passed one mourns; wishing the time was spent different.
To rush to the next thing and live in the next moment is a recipe for a life that has passed you by. A recipe for a life that feels empty, unfulfilling, and dull.
To make the best use of your time is not a productivity stunt. Instead, it is an effort to be present. An effort to savor and enjoy.
